Indian Railways completes electrification works in 85% RKMs

Guwahati, January 31, (MExN): To minimise dependence on fossil fuels and progress towards becoming the largest ‘Green Railways’ in the world, the Indian Railways has completed electrification works in 85% Route Kilometers (RKMs), informed an official release. 

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is also endeavouring to complete the electrification, said the release issued by the NFR Chief Public Relations Officer on Tuesday.

In this connection, the inspection of Railway Electrification works followed by speed trial at full sectional speed (100 Kmph) in Siliguri Jn -New Mal Jn (48 RKM/61 TKM) Single line section of Alipurduar Division and in Siliguri Jn - Aluabari Road Jn via Bagdogra (74.17 RKM/88.32 TKM) Single line section of Katihar Division were successfully completed on January 29 and 30 respectively, it informed.

Similarly, on January 31, inspection of Railway Electrification works in Haibargaon-Mairabari (43.80 RKM/44.92 TKM) section of Lumding Division was completed successfully. 

After commissioning, electric locomotive trains will now be able to operate directly from Guwahati to Haibargaon - Mairabari section and to Silghat town, which will increase the average speed and trains from Silghat to various destinations like Kolkata, Chennai etc can be operated without changing the engine, it said.

The section between Siliguri Jn -New Mal Jn has five stations and while Siliguri Jn-Aluabari Road Jn via Bagdogra has ten stations

After completion of electrification works, trains would pass through these sections with full pace without losing its punctuality and more passenger & freight carrying trains can operate from north-eastern region, the release said.

Works on electrification projects along the NFR zone is in full swing and apart from reducing pollution, it would significantly improve the mobility and efficiency of trains and strengthen the rail network in NE states, it maintained.
