Dimapur, August 2 (MExN): The Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has condemned the alleged gunpoint threat issued by a police personnel to a delivery worker at Naga United Village, saying such actions undermine public trust and threaten inter-tribal harmony.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the WSH alleged that police personnel Blessto Zhimo of Ghukiye village threatened a delivery worker, identified as Khruvota of Dzulhami village, with a firearm on August 1 at Naga United Village in Chümoukedima district.
Describing the incident as unacceptable and unjustifiable, the organisation said the alleged act amounted to a serious breach of public trust by an individual entrusted with protecting the public.
The WSH said such incidents create fear and insecurity among citizens and erode peace within the community.
It also expressed concern that the alleged incident could affect the long-standing relationship between the Sumi and Chakhesang communities.
"Naga United Village stands as a symbol of unity. Unprovoked acts of aggression like this threaten to damage the long-standing relationship and brotherhood between the Chakhesang and Sumi tribes," the statement said.
The organisation, however, said it would not allow the alleged conduct of an individual to undermine the trust, mutual respect and coexistence built over generations between the two communities.
Expressing regret over the incident, the WSH apologised to the victim, his family and the affected community, stating that no individual should face intimidation while carrying out his livelihood.
The organisation also expressed solidarity with the victim and assured him of its support.
The WSH further warned that it would take action against any individual found creating animosity or misunderstanding between communities through such incidents, and urged all concerned to uphold peace and communal harmony.
