Interfaith forum appeal to end cycle of violence in Manipur

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 (MExN): A collective leadership meeting of interfaith forum representing all religious/faith communities of Manipur was held at Guwahati on September 26 and 27. 

Members present at the meeting had detailed discussion on the current violent situation in Manipur and unanimously resolved to issue an appeal to all concerned engaged in violent conflict in Manipur for over the last four months. 

This is in the interests of larger humanity, and present and future children of the state, a press release issued by Interfaith Forum for Peace and Harmony, Manipur stated. 

The forum, comprising of religious leaders of Manipur, on the initiative of Interfaith Forum for Peace and Harmony, Manipur, has appealed to the communities in conflict to end the cycle of violence in every form- aggressive action, threat or provocative statement in the state and outside.

It requested “our friends and supporters in Manipur and outside to avoid every form of exaggeration in the description of past or current events and negative projection of the future in the media or other social contexts.” 

The forum appealed that every effort be made to initiate peace conversations at local levels and collaboration in whatever possible ways. It pleaded that no obstacle be placed on the movement of relief materials, including medical assistance of various kinds. 

The forum said it looked forward to an era of peace and prosperity in Manipur with the wholehearted collaboration of all communities in the state.
