Dimapur | October 6
Social media platforms erupted in anger, on October 6, after CCTV footage of a grown man hitting a toddler went viral. The footage, which began circulating, Monday, shows the man slapping a toddler at a shop at the Nyamo Lotha Road, in Dimapur.
The man, reported to be a local fitness and bodybuilding promoter, was angered after his son was allegedly hit by the toddler in the incident reported to have occurred on October 5. The toddler was tossed to the floor, crying, as another adult, believed to be his father came rushing and took him away. The man then casually let his child get some frozen food items. The man’s action had people reacting in anger on various social media platforms.
It was learnt that no official complaint was filed against the man, who runs a successful gym and is a known face in the state’s fitness circuit, and involved in organising fitness events.
As per sources, citing official inputs, the police intervened sensing the heat generated on social media and reportedly summoned the man. It later turned out that the toddler’s family refused to file any complaint and two parties mutually resolved the issue in the presence of the police.
The Dimapur police did not respond to attempts made by The Morung Express to confirm this. It could not be ascertained whether the District Child Protection Unit and Child Welfare Committee would take cognisance of the incident.
