JCF, CCC question alleged lockdown of business

Dimapur, May 10 (MExN): The Joint Council Forum (JCF) and the Churches Colony Council (CCC) have condemned the alleged forceful entry and lockdown of a business establishment at Churches Colony by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) over allegations related to business practices.

In separate press statements, both bodies maintained that no organisation or pressure group has the authority to take the law into its own hands or undertake coercive actions outside the legal framework.

The JCF stated that while every citizen or organisation has the right to raise concerns regarding alleged irregularities such as manipulation of MRP, GST and other business-related practices, such matters must be formally reported to competent law enforcement agencies and government departments for proper investigation and action in accordance with the law.

“The question that arises is: Is it the role of any student body or pressure group to unilaterally lock down a business establishment?” the forum stated, adding that such actions undermine the role and relevance of lawful authorities and the administrative system.

The forum also noted that every locality functions under recognised institutions such as councils, chairmen, GBs and other local administrative bodies, and maintained that even official operations conducted by competent authorities are often coordinated with local bodies to maintain public order.

Stating that no organisation, irrespective of its intentions, should take the law into its own hands, the JCF cautioned that such actions could create fear, disrupt public order and undermine institutions established to ensure justice and governance.

Meanwhile, the Churches Colony Council strongly condemned the alleged forceful entry and lockdown of the business establishment, terming it “unlawful, unacceptable and a direct challenge to the authority of the government, district administration and law enforcement agencies.”

The Council stated that matters relating to alleged business malpractice fall strictly within the jurisdiction of competent government authorities and that any grievance or allegation must be addressed through due legal process.

It urged the law enforcement agencies and district administration to take serious cognisance of the incident, conduct a thorough inquiry and initiate appropriate legal action against those involved in unlawful acts that threaten public order and undermine the rule of law.

The Council further maintained that Churches Colony would not tolerate any form of unlawful intimidation, unauthorised enforcement or actions that disturb peace and normal public life within its jurisdiction.

Both the JCF and the Churches Colony Council asserted that grievances must be resolved peacefully, responsibly and strictly through the existing legal framework.
