Kohima, July 27 (MExN): A delegation of the Kamrup Metropolitan Zila Sahitya Sabha, Assam, led by its president Prafulla Barman today called on Nagaland’s Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio at Sovima village, Chümoukedima.
The delegation apprised Dr. Rio of its visit aimed at supporting the revival and strengthening of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and fostering long-term literary and cultural relations between the States of Assam and Nagaland.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the historical significance of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha.
It was noted that the founding President of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, Reverend Sahitya Charyya Padmanath Gohain Baruah, while serving as a teacher in Kohima, established the Kohima Sahitya Sabha in 1895.
The institution is recognised as the first office of the Assam Sahitya Sabha and stands as a lasting symbol of the goodwill, mutual respect, affection, and generosity shared between the literature-loving people of Nagaland and Assam. It continues to bear testimony to this rich literary and cultural heritage.
Dr Rio welcomed the members of the delegation and appreciated their initiative to strengthen the longstanding literary and cultural ties between the two States.
Reaffirming the importance of preserving this shared legacy, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the State Government would extend its full support for the revival and development of the Kohima Sahitya Sabha and would take appropriate steps to facilitate the proposed initiatives.
He also expressed his commitment to promoting stronger friendship and sustained literary and cultural exchanges between Assam and Nagaland.
The visit of the Kamrup Metropolitan Zila Sahitya Sabha marks an important step towards deepening inter-state cultural collaboration and honoring the shared literary history of the region, according to Teisovikuolie Therie, Deputy Director, Art & Culture Department, Nagaland.
