KCCI has called upon its members, commercial establishments and traders to uphold the 1993 “One Government, One Tax” resolution of the Angami Public Organisation.
Kohima, September 26 (MExN): The Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has called upon its members, commercial establishments and traders to uphold the 1993 “One Government, One Tax” resolution of the Angami Public Organisation (APO).
The KCCI issued the call following a consultative meeting with the APO on September 23, convened in connection with representations submitted by the Chamber regarding the prevalence of multiple tax demands.
According to a press release issued by the KCCI Media & Publicity Cell, the Chamber formally adopted the 1993 APO resolution, which resolved that no entity shall pay tax within its jurisdiction.
As the parent body representing trade and commerce across Kohima, the KCCI directed the business community to implement the resolution across all commercial operations and markets. It also requested cooperation from affiliated trade sections, market committees and commercial operators to maintain uniformity in following the directive.
The Chamber stated that any business owner, shopkeeper or firm that pays “unauthorised taxes” contrary to the resolution would do so at their own risk. It further stated that the KCCI would not intervene or accept responsibility for actions taken contrary to the resolution. In cases where tax collectors allegedly apply force or coercion, the KCCI advised its members to direct the demanding parties to the office of the APO.
