Kisan Rail consignments top 6500 tonnes from Jan to July: NFR

Guwahati, August 10 (MExN): The Northeast Fropinter Railway (NFR) on August 9 maintained that it is “relentlessly” operating Kisan Rail trains to and fro from the region to strengthen the supply chain and help farmers in transporting their produce to larger markets.

During the current year from January to July, 15 Kisan Rail trips have transported more than 6500 tonnes of consignments, informed a press release from the NFR CPRO Sabyasachi De.

The trains were operated from Dhupguri, Falakata and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal to Agartala in Tripura and Bhanga in Assam for transportation of potatoes. 

From January to December, 2021, 40 Kisan Rails have been operated to carry more than 12500 tonnes of consignments, it added. 

The transportation of fruits and vegetables by Kisan Rail are granted a subsidy of 50% o¬n the tariff chargeable, so that local farmers are benefited, the release said.

The Kisan Rail Trains also help in transporting perishable, agri-produces such as fruits and vegetables to the markets in various places across the country, which in turn enables farmers/producers to realise better value for their products, it added. 

At present, the locations like Agartala, Dimapur, Changsari, New Guwahati, Jorhat Town, Azara, Tinsukia, Bhanga are being covered by the Kisan Rail services. 

Meanwhile, a separate release from the CPRO on August 8 informed that the NFR has unloaded 4603 freight carrying rakes from April to July of current financial year, indicating an 8.05% increase over the corresponding period of last year.

The NFR also unloaded 1176 freight carrying rakes in July 2022, signifying an increase of about 18.90% over corresponding period of last year. 

The NFR has transported goods like FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizer, cement, coal, vegetables, auto, tank, container and other items during the month and unloaded them in different goods sheds within its jurisdiction, it said.
