Kohima, April 15 (MExN): Kohima Police has seized a huge quantity of suspected counterfeit cosmetic and beauty products, falsely marketed under reputed brand names including LAKME, from five shops in the Razhü Point and Y-junction area, PRO Kohima Police said on Wednesday.
Acting on “credible inputs” regarding the sale of suspected counterfeit cosmetic products within its jurisdiction, Kohima police said it has initiated ‘legal action’ and conducted specific checks at the shops and recovered the seized items.
A case has been registered vide North PS Case No. 0011/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, read with Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957. Five persons have been arrested in connection with the case and are currently in judicial custody, police said, adding that investigation is underway.
Kohima Police said such activities not only violate the rights of companies but also pose potential health risks to consumers. Citizens have been advised to purchase cosmetic products only from authorised sellers and verify product authenticity before use. Suspicious products may be reported to the nearest police station, police said.
