Kohima, June 23 (MExN): The Kohima Police apprehended three individuals, including a self-styled ‘Captain’ of a faction and two senior functionaries of NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael) group, in two separate operations conducted on June 22.

The first operation was launched based on “reliable information” received on Monday around 4:00 pm regarding the “movement of a person allegedly linked to a self-styled underground faction” in the Razhü Point area, under the jurisdiction of North Police Station.

During the operation, police apprehended one Cizoto Veswuh (47), stated to be an SS Captain of NNC/FGN (Thinoselie Group). Authorities recovered an information slip issued by a Deputy Chaplee of FGN and one FGN receipt from his possession.

The accused and the seized items were brought to the North Police Station, and a case (North PS Case No. 0029/2026) has been registered against him under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 7 of Nagaland Security Regulation, 1962. Investigation is in progress, the PRO of Kohima Police stated.

In a separate operation, the police acted on information regarding rampant extortion demands being made to shops and business establishments within the South Police Station jurisdiction. A preliminary enquiry indicated that several business owners had received such demands, creating a climate of fear and reluctance among the affected persons to lodge formal complaints.

Taking cognizance of the gravity of the matter and its impact on public order, the police registered a suo motu case at the South Police Station. Subsequent investigation led to the apprehension of Viketouzo (46), SS Kilonser, CAO Angami Region and John Magh (39), SS Brigadier of NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael).

Both accused were arrested in connection with South PS Case No. 0030/2026, registered under Sections 308(2) and 3(5) of the BNS, 2023. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the extortion activities, identify other persons involved, and gather supporting evidence.

The Kohima Police reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens and ensuring a safe environment for businesses to operate. The public has been urged to report incidents of extortion, intimidation or unlawful demands to the nearest police station. “All information received will be handled with strict confidentiality,” it added.
