Non-voter political workers must leave by April 7 evening
Kohima, April 6 (MExN): The campaigning for the bye-election to the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency will cease at 4 PM on April 7, in accordance with Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, Bhagyashree Banayat, IAS, notified on Monday.
After the stipulated deadline, no person shall convene, hold, attend, join or address any public meeting or procession related to the election. Display of election matter via cinematograph, television or similar apparatus, as well as propagation through musical concerts, theatrical performances, or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attract the public, is also prohibited.
Any contravention of these provisions shall be punishable with imprisonment of up to two years, or fine, or both, the notification cautioned.
Furthermore, after the closure of the campaign period, no political activity can take place within the constituency. Presence of political functionaries and party workers, who have been brought from outside the constituency and who are not voters of the constituency, should not remain present in the constituency as their continued presence after end of the campaign period may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll, the CEO directed.
The district administration and police have been instructed to ensure that all such individuals leave the constituency immediately after 4 PM on April 7.
