Kohima, August 31 (MExN): An orientation programme for KPC-NBOCWWB Media Fellowship 2023 (Kohima Press Club- Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board) was held at KPC Office with Avile Vitso, Deputy Director, Office of the Labour Commissioner as the resource speaker on August 31.

The selected fellows for the second round of KPC-NBOCWWB Media Fellowship, 2023 include Imti Longchar (Print Journalism), Reyivolü Rhakho (Print Journalism), Thejoto Nienu (Print Journalism), Caisii Mao (Photojournalism) and Grace Khuvung (Video Journalism).

Speaking at the orientation programme, Avile Vitso congratulated the media fellows while extending her best wishes in their journey. She said that journalists are very important to the society but the least acknowledged people in the world. Most of the time, she said that people don't appreciate or acknowledge their work even though they work behind the scenes and strive for the society.

“You are the eyes, ears, hands and feet of the society,” she said while highlighting that “you go to places we cannot go and bring out those things that we cannot see.” Substantiating to this, she said journalists are the hands that extend help to the needy as they learn about people who are in need through the media. She further stated that journalists are also the feet that tread dangerous places and dare to bring out the truth while adding that most of all, journalists are the heart that pulsates the society by bringing out endearing stories and melt the hearts of even the hardest of hearts.

Stating that although the media plays the most important role in the society by changing lives of individuals, society and the government through their stories, she reiterated that they are the least appreciated in the society. However, she exhorted them to continue doing what they do without getting discouraged and requested them to be the eyes, ears, hands and feet of the society.

Earlier, Kohima Press Club, President, Alice Yhoshü gave the introductory remarks and gave a background on how the KPC-NBOCWWB Media Fellowship came about. She also exuded hope for a continued partnership in the days to come.

Highlights of the event included speeches by Vishü Rita Krocha, Convenor for Print Journalism, Vincent Belho, Convenor for Video Journalism and Zhazo Miachieo, who spoke on Photojournalism. A contract agreement was also signed with the five selected fellows.
