Demonstration on preparation of osmo dehydrated pineapple rings and tidbits for farmers.
Dimapur, October 1 (MExN): ICAR-KVK Dimapur conducted a demonstration and hands-on training on pineapple processing at Paiphijang village on September 30 under its Frontline Demonstration (FLD) programme. The programme focused on creating awareness among farmers about simple value-addition and processing techniques to improve the shelf life and marketability of pineapple.
Dr Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS (Home Science), ICAR-KVK Dimapur, demonstrated the preparation of osmo dehydrated pineapple rings and tidbits. The participants were familiarised with the processing procedure, hygiene and handling practices, and the potential of processed pineapple products for household consumption and income generation.
A hands-on session on pineapple jam making was also conducted, with farmers participating in fruit preparation, cooking, consistency determination, and hygienic handling and storage. A total of 22 farmers participated in the programme. The programme highlighted pineapple processing and value addition as ways to reduce post-harvest losses, extend the usability of the fruit and generate additional income through diversified pineapple-based products.
