Imphal, October 17 (NNN): With the record-breaking economic blockade along national highways being imposed by Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) on the demand of creation of Sadar Hills district entered its 84th day on Monday, reports said possibility of medical oxygen exhausting in the state cannot be ruled, sources said.
In a major development, drug companies, which had earlier refused to supply medicine to the state, have started dispatching drugs after the state Government assured them to compensate for the drugs burnt down by bandh supporters last month.
The existing stock of medical oxygen is not encouraging in view of the prolonged blockade although the current stock has improved considerably, an official source in the state Health Department informed.
However, the oxygen stock positions available in Shija Hospitals and Research Institutes, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical Sciences (JNMS) could not be ascertained exactly as no official information in this regard was available.
Meanwhile, the drugs companies, which stopped sending drugs to the state following four drug loaded trucks were set aflame at Oinamlong along Imphal-Jiribam road last month, have changed their decision. The development came after assurance of the state Government to compensate the loss. The current stock of drugs in the state is stated to be around 80 per cent of the total capacity, state Health Department sources said.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Sigh held consultation with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the issue of the ongoing economic blockade. The chief minister called on the AICC President on Friday in Delhi and understood to have apprised her about the more than a month long economic blockade and the prevailing situation arising out of it in the state.
