Lions Club of Dimapur Elite holds eye screening, glaucoma awareness camp

Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): The Lions Club of Dimapur Elite organised an eye screening camp and awareness programme on glaucoma, myopia, eye healthcare and computer vision syndrome at Ramjanaki Higher Secondary School on the occasion of World Glaucoma Week.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Lion Meena Sethi, with Lion Reema Jain and Lion Payal Jain serving as chairpersons.

The awareness session was led by Dr Asonla Aying Chang, Senior Specialist at District Hospital Dimapur, along with a team of nurses and ophthalmic assistants. The programme was attended by the school principal.

During the camp, more than 140 individuals underwent eye screening, including students from classes 4 to 12, as well as teachers, staff and club members.

Speaking on the occasion, the organisers highlighted the importance of eye health, noting that vision plays a vital role in learning and overall development. The club also expressed gratitude to the school authorities for facilitating the programme.

The awareness session covered key issues such as glaucoma, often referred to as the “silent thief of sight” due to its gradual progression without noticeable symptoms until significant vision loss occurs, as well as myopia and computer vision syndrome.

Participants were advised to adopt healthy eye care practices, including studying in proper lighting, limiting screen time and maintaining a balanced diet.

World Glaucoma Week is observed globally to raise awareness about glaucoma and emphasise the need for timely eye check-ups to prevent vision loss.
