LMFN holds annual meeting in Dimapur, resolves to strengthen linguistic minority welfare

Dimapur, June 8 (MExN): The Linguistic Minority Forum Nagaland (LMFN) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 7 at the conference hall of Hotel Europa Inn in Dimapur, where members adopted several resolutions aimed at strengthening the organisation and promoting the welfare of linguistic minority and non-Naga communities in the state.

The meeting was attended by executive members, office bearers, community leaders and invited citizens, who deliberated on issues concerning the rights, welfare and development of linguistic minority and non-Naga communities residing in Nagaland.

A major resolution adopted during the meeting was the organisation of the 2nd Annual Youth Conclave-cum-Cultural Fest 2026, scheduled to be held in the second week of July at the Town Hall, Dimapur. The conclave is expected to bring together community leaders, youth representatives, intellectuals and members of various non-Naga communities to promote cultural understanding, social harmony, youth empowerment and dialogue on issues affecting the community.

The House also resolved to constitute an organising committee at the earliest to ensure the successful conduct of the event.

Among other resolutions, the Forum decided to constitute a dedicated Youth Wing under the parent body of LMFN to address youth-related issues and strengthen the organisation's structure. It also resolved to form a five-member Advisory Core Committee comprising intellectuals and educationists from different fields to provide guidance and strategic direction on matters concerning community welfare and development.

The AGM further resolved to establish an LMFN district branch committee in Kohima to expand the Forum's activities and outreach in the state capital. A delegation team will also be constituted to engage with civil society organisations and stakeholders with the objective of fostering cordial relations between Naga and non-Naga communities and promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and inclusive state-building.

Addressing the gathering, LMFN Chairman Bishnu Bhattacharjee highlighted the contributions made by linguistic minority citizens towards the growth and development of Dimapur, Kohima and other towns across Nagaland. He outlined the aims and objectives of the Forum and reiterated its commitment to the welfare, empowerment and advancement of minority communities while contributing positively to the state's overall progress.

Bhattacharjee also expressed gratitude to community leaders, well-wishers and supporters for their cooperation and assistance since the Forum's inception, enabling it to undertake various welfare and community development initiatives.

The Annual Secretary's Report for 2025-26 was presented by Secretary Kabir Ahmed Choudhury, who highlighted the Forum's activities, achievements, outreach programmes and organisational developments during the reporting period.

Senior community leaders shared their views and suggestions on the challenges, aspirations and future prospects of linguistic minority communities in Nagaland. Members present unanimously reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of the Forum and pledged continued support for its activities and objectives.

The members also resolved to work collectively to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of non-Naga linguistic minority citizens, particularly children born and brought up in Nagaland and families that have been residing in the state for decades.

The Forum expressed appreciation to all members, community leaders, well-wishers and invited guests who attended the AGM and actively participated in its deliberations. It also reiterated its commitment to promoting the rights, education, security and overall well-being of children belonging to linguistic minority communities while fostering peace, harmony, mutual respect and social cohesion in Nagaland.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to community welfare, constructive engagement and efforts towards a peaceful, inclusive and progressive Nagaland.
