Kohima, May 30 (MExN): Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama, inaugurated its National Service Scheme (NSS) unit during a programme held at the school auditorium, marking the beginning of a new chapter in community service and student engagement.

The event was attended by Kelengol Neikha, NSS Programme Coordinator of St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), as the chief guest.

The programme commenced with a prayer service seeking blessings for the newly established NSS unit and its future activities. NSS members also presented a welcome song, adding to the significance of the occasion.

A key highlight of the event was the presentation of the NSS action plan by assistant leader Novinu Savi. She outlined a series of service-oriented activities proposed for the year, including the adoption of the marketplace near Kigwema and a stretch of the main highway for cleanliness drives and community service initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Neikha explained the history, objectives and significance of the National Service Scheme. He encouraged students to actively participate in NSS activities, citing examples of how the programme has helped young people develop leadership qualities, discipline and character.

He also underscored the role of NSS volunteers in nation-building, noting that even small acts of service contribute meaningfully to societal progress. He concluded by reminding students that the spirit of NSS begins with self-discipline and personal responsibility.

The school principal also addressed the gathering and urged students to remain committed to the NSS motto, “Not Me But You.” Emphasising the responsibility of young volunteers, the principal encouraged them to dedicate their time, energy and talents towards the welfare of their village, state and the nation.

The programme was anchored by Nothongonu Kharutso.

The inauguration served not only as the formal launch of the NSS unit but also as a call for students to embrace selfless service, responsible citizenship and active participation in community development.
