DIMAPUR, JULY 9 (MExN): A major fire was averted at the congested New Market on Saturday, July 9. The fire which erupted at a row of residential homes affected nine families, mostly non-Nagas, who were living as tenants. No loss of lives was reported though.
According to one of the affected residents, the fire started from one rented room at around 10:00 am. The alarmed residents alerted the fire brigade who responded with five fire trucks. The firemen had to battle for nearly two hours to douse the flames.   One of the firemen said that they received information at around 10:00 am but had a hard time navigating the rush hour traffic. He said that it would be very helpful on the part of the vehicles on the road to give way when they hear the emergency siren of the fire brigade.
