Manipur Conflict: FNBA urges to cease violence, initiate dialogue

Dimapur, May 5 (MExN): The Fellowship of Naga Baptist Associations (FNBA) has appealed to Kuki and Naga communities in conflict-hit Manipur to immediately cease all forms of violence and initiate dialogue to resolve ongoing tensions, and “to exercise restraint and commit to peace.”

In a statement issued by FNBA President Rev Dr Visor H Zeliang, General Secretary Rev Dr H Gideon, and Recording Secretary Rev Dr P James, the Associations said that the present situation has brought deep pain, loss and uncertainty to many families and villages. “Continued violence will only intensify suffering, erode trust and hinder the possibility of a peaceful and secure future for all,” it noted.

“At this critical juncture, no lasting solution can be achieved through confrontation or force,” the FNBA said, urging community leaders, civil organisations, church bodies and individuals to take immediate steps toward the cessation of all forms of violence. “Let there be a collective commitment to de-escalation and the restoration of calm.”

The organisation called for the initiation of “sincere and constructive dialogue,” asserting that dialogue provides a dignified and peaceful platform to address grievances, seek understanding and work toward just and mutually acceptable solutions. “It demands patience, humility, and the courage to listen, but it remains the only viable path to lasting peace.”

Invoking Christian values, the FNBA reminded communities of their shared calling to be peacemakers, uphold the sanctity of life and pursue reconciliation “even in the most challenging circumstances.”

“Let us not allow anger and mistrust to define our actions, but instead choose the path of grace, truth and unity,” the Associations stated adding, “This is a moment for collective responsibility. The future of our land and our people depends on the choices we make today. Let us choose peace.”
