Manipur State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Wednesday declared that it will support the proposed all India strike on January 8, 2020, called by ten central trade unions including INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC etc highlighting various demands for welfare of the workers.
Addressing a press conference at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal, CPI national executive member, Dr M Nara Singh said that the state CPI has decided to extend its full corporation to make the strike successful in the state. He also said that the strike is to be given demanding strict implementation of Food Security Act, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, implementation of 7th Pay Commission, replacement of New Pension Scheme with Defined Pension Scheme, regularisation of contractual, casual and outsourced workers, social security for all workers/employees, increment in honorarium of Village Defence Force (VDF) and establishment of Highway Protection Force etc.
Other demands include the issues of minimum wage and street vendors. Honorarium of Rs 18,000 should be given to minimum wage workers and they should be provided a minimum of Rs 3,000 as pension.
Street vendors should be provided proper and permanent place to conduct business, Dr Nara Singh demanded.
Talking on Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), the CPI leader said that it would not be a wise decision if ILP system is taken parallel to CAB. “ILP system cannot replace CAB,” he said.
He cautioned that some sections of the society were trying to give an impression that since ILP system has been extended in Manipur, the state can be protected from the impact of CAB. “It is a wrong concept,” he added.
