Police have seized about 461.83 kg of suspected brown sugar (remnants of processed opium) during an operation busting an illegal drug manufacturing factory in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur police busted the illegal drug manufacturing factory which was found running in a hill, east of Phajang village under Saikul police station of Kangpokpi district on Wednesday night, around 9.30 pm.
Besides 461.83 kg of suspected brown sugar, 136 litres of suspected liquid opium (morphinated solution), 100 kg of lime, 17 bottles of (one kg each capacity) ammonium chloride, two iron pressing machines, one gas frame with one LPG cylinder, four rubber gloves, one weighing machine along with other incriminating articles used in the manufacturing of brown sugar were also recovered during the operation.
Addressing a press conference at Imphal NAB office on Thursday, NAB SP, W Basu said that the brown sugar laboratory was busted during an operation by a team of NAB personnel led by its ASP Saklemba RK, acting on reliable information.
No arrest was made as the persons engaged in the illegal act had fled before the team reached the spot taking advantage of the hilly remote location, the police officer said. A case has been registered at Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) police station, Imphal for further investigation.
