Police in Manipur’s border district Tengnoupal have seized 9.7222 kg Brown Sugar which would worth around Rs 19 crore in the international market.
A team of Tengnoupal police who were on mobile frisking and checking at Dalpati area near international border intercepted the contraband drugs allegedly smuggled through the porous indo-Myanmar border, a press release of the state police PRO said on October 20.
The police team launched the mobile frisking and checking to intercept any contraband items/drugs smuggled through the porous border, it said.
On Saturday, around 5:30 pm, the police team intercepted a scooter loaded with two gunny bags behind the driver crossing the international border from the Myanmar side.
When the team signaled to stop the scooter for frisking and checking using torch light, the individual tried to escape by making his scooter U-turn towards Myanmar side.
However, the team chased after the individual who abandoned the scooter along with two gunny bags on the vehicle and escaped towards Myanmar territory taking advantage of darkness of the area, the press release said.
On checking at the spot, the two gunny bags were found to contain Brown Sugar weighed 9.722 kg including weight of the transparent plastic packets.
The value of the seized item would be around Rs 19 crore in the international market, the press release claimed.
