Amid student bodies’ anti-CAB total shutdown-call, BJP Manipur Pradesh led coalition government of Manipur celebrated the Centre’s announcement for introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur on December 10.

The celebration began with a march by a large number of BJP workers and supporters were also joined by leaders of partners of the saffron-led coalition government in the state.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his cabinet colleagues including NPP, NPF and LJP led the march that kicked started from BJP Manipur Pradesh’s head office in Imphal Nityaipat Chuthek and converged at BOAT in Imphal’s Palace Compound.

State deputy chief minister and state NPP leader Y Joykumar, Revenue minister and LJP leader Karam Shyam Singh, NPF state unit president Awangbou Newmai and other ministers and MLAs also took part in the celebration function held at BOAT.

The celebration started with a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls of those who sacrificed their lives in the movement for implementation of ILP system in the state.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister credited the achievement (extension of ILP system in the state) to the people of the state and said that ILP system is a long pending demand of the people of the state.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that they (BJP) run the government with people’s mandate through elections and urged the people to stop "dictating" them.

Defending non-assent of Manipur People's Bill 2018 which was still at the Rastrapati Bhavan, Biren said that Manipur People's Bill was only a bill to check entry of illegal migrants and claimed that ILP system is a mechanism which will “totally protect” the indigenous people of the state.

Also speaking on the occasion, Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar expressed hope that BJP leaders at the Centre will solve all the issues of the state while claiming that BJP leaders at the Centre are well aware of sentiments of the people of the state.

He then urged the people to have faith in the Central leaders reminding that Union Home minister Amit Shah had assured that Manipur’s interest will be protected while resolving the Naga political issue.

“There is no need for demanding a written assurance. Let’s keep faith in his (Amit Shah’s) assurance,” he said, claiming that the Union Home minister kept the assurance he had given on CAB.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA and NPF state unit president Awangbou Newmai observed that as Manipur is a state where different communities live together, there is the need for protecting the interest of all communities.

He then appealed the people to stop resorting to any strike, bandh or blockade without prior consultation with the state government. He also urged the people not to forget that there is a government of the people in the state, too.
