Civil bodies including NPO, SDSA, SDWA and SKWWA in collaboration with the Senapati District Administration opened a Relief Camp for stranded passengers affected by the infinite strike launched by Sadar Hills District Demand Committee.
Dimapur, August 6 (MExN): A frontal Naga organization in Manipur strongly warned Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh that he would face equally befitting response considering his current dealing with the present economic blockade and indefinite general strike launched by Sadar Hills District Demand Committee. The ‘communal approach and attitude’ of the SPF-led state government has deeply disturbed the sentiments of the people in Senapati district, the Naga people’s organization stated in a press release.
“Any illogical decision of the Government to infuse tension among the co-existing tribal communities will not be tolerated,” the NPO stated in its warning. “Warning against benefiting any political advantage or partial conclusion by the state Government from the issue, the NPO will not remain a silent spectator but react effectively and responsibly in general’s interest of the district”.
The NPO seriously viewed the ‘suspicious’ nature of the Manipur government in dealing with the volatile situation in Senapati district in the backdrop of the economic blockade and indefinite general strike launched by the SHDDC.
With inflow of inter-state buses, trucks, private vehicles mounting day by day at Senapati headquarters’ local ground due to the general strike, the NPO said the agitation has created a humanitarian crisis. The NPO appeals for relaxation on humanitarian ground the on-going indefinite general strike imposed by SHDDC.
The NPO also expressed sorrow for the bereaved families of the three persons killed and others injured on August 2, 2011 in Kanglatongbi. “Such loss of human lives should be avoided during any Democratic agitation of achieving ‘a meaningful solution,” the NPO stated.
However, the NPO said it would not remain a silent spectator. “Closely monitoring the move of CM O Ibobi Singh, the NPO is compelled to express extreme unhappiness against unleashing communal and provoking statement designed to create antagonism among the Nagas and other tribal communities in Manipur,” the organization said.
“The present state government will not be allowed to sacrifice the peaceful environment of different tribal communities for their vested political mileage.” The press release was appended by vice president of NPO A Adakho.
