
Imphal, August 29 (NNN): Transporters in Manipur have asked the state government to extend financial and other assistances to the family of the deceased driver who succumbed to his injury after volunteers of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) attacked him sometimes back. The transport union has therefore decided not to ply on national highways of the state if the government fails to honor its demand by September 2.
Secretary of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers’ and Motor Workers’ Union H Kulamini told the media today that the union will start agitation and stop plying their vehicles on national highways from September 2 if the state government did not extend necessary assistances to the family members of Md Rahaman who was attacked by volunteers of SHDDC on August 3 and succumbed to his injury at a private hospital in Imphal on August 13, ten days after the incident.
S Manglem, president of the union, said that a memorandum has also been submitted to the chief minister by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Md Rahaman.
