Measles catch–up campaign underway

Dimapur, October 13 (MExN): The ongoing Measles catch–up campaign, conducted by the Department of Health & Family Welfare under Universal Immunization Programme, has been implemented in a phase-wise manner and so far the coverage in Dimapur district for the first three days is 34302 children out of the total 75954 targeted children in the district. This was informed in a press release issued by District Immunization Officer Dr. R. Chielie. The department has urged the parents to immunize their children during this campaign irrespective of their previous immunization status or measles infection and protect them from Measles. The campaign will continue till October 31 at fixed outreach sessions in villages and urban areas until the targeted population has been immunized.

MON: The first phase of the Measles Catch up campaign of Mon district was flagged off on October 11 with the administering of vaccines to school children at Mon and Tizit Blocks. The 1st phase of the campaign, which is to continue till October 18 will include villages and schools in Mon and Tizit blocks respectively. Besides the schools, vaccination of children between 9 months to 10 years will be done in churches, community hall and health units and other designated centers. The second phase of the Measles Catch up campaign will include Phomching and Aboi/Chen Blocks to be held from October 17 till 26; while the third phase will be conducted in Tobu and Wakching Blocks from October 24 till November 4.

Peren: With the target to immunize every child with measles vaccine falling between ages of 9 months to 10 years from October 10 to 31, Measles Catch-up Campaign got started successfully in Peren district. In the first week the campaign will cover all the 168 schools of the district and outreach campaign will be conducted in the following two weeks to make sure that every child is immunized.
