Meghalaya CM wants improvement in revenue collection under GST

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma has expressed desire to see improvements in the volume of revenue collected under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Meghalaya. Speaking during a two – day training session of state tax officers which came to a close on Tuesday, Conrad said, “Revenue collected under GST in the State still has room for improvement and the amount of Rs. 878 crores collected in 2018-19 is still short of the potential that the State.” Conrad has set a target of Rs. 1500 crores GST revenue collection for the year 2019-20 and he also said that the target is achievable provided the officers push themselves towards it.


The training programme was conducted by the National Academy for Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Zonal Campus, Shillong in collaboration with the office of the Commissioner of Taxes, Meghalaya at the KJP Synod Conference Centre, Shillong. Also present were C Songate, Additional Director General NACIN, S A Synrem, Commissioner & Secretary ERTS Department, Meghalaya and Arunkumar Kembhavi, Commissioner of Taxes, Meghalaya. The faculty consisted of Senior Taxation Officers as resource persons from the State and outside.
