Member of Planning Commission meets State Government officials

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 1 (DIPR): Member of Planning Commission of India, B.K Chaturvedi, IAS (Retd.), accompanied by Sr. Advisor (SP-NE), Planning Commission, S.N Brohmo Choudhury met senior state government officials at a review meeting held at Hotel Japfü, Kohima on 1st October 2011. On a two day visit to the state, the Planning Commission officials arrived at Kohima by helicopter in the afternoon from Mon district where they met civil society members and government officials earlier in the morning
During the meeting Commissioner & Secretary, Planning, Mhombemo Patton gave a brief presentation of the performance of the state during the 11th Plan, Sectoral allocation and problems faced by the state, major ongoing projects and status of implementation of Plan Programmes during 2011-12.  Administrative Heads and Heads of Departments of all the major departments were present at the meeting where they highlighted the major activities of their departments and the areas where more help from the Planning Commission would be required.
Interacting with the officials, B.K Chaturvedi expressed the hope that the interaction will help in planning for development of the state. He said that many states in the country have certain areas that are less developed and therefore, states have to have a ‘plan within a plan’ for development of those regions. He urged the state government to take these factors into account while planning for the 12th Five Year Plan.
Addressing a Press Conference after the review meeting, B.K Chaturvedi said that they had decided to visit the state to interact with the officials and people of the state to find out ways on how to move forward for faster economic growth of the state. During the meeting all related issues concerning Road Development, Industries, Power, Rural Development, Agri and Horticulture, Health, Education were taken up for discussion and review. He opined that the state needs more private investment for faster growth.
Chaturvedi informed that at Mon he had discussed a range of issues with civil society members and their developmental needs had been noted. He had assured to extend support in whatever way possible, he said. Chief Secretary Lalthara, ACS & Development Commissioner Alemtemshi Jamir, Commissioner & Secretary, Planning, Mhombemo Patton, Commissioner & Secretary IPR and NRE, M.K. Mero, Director, IPR, Imokokba were also present at the press briefing.
Later in the evening, a cultural programme organized by the Music Task Force, Nagaland was held in honour of the visiting officials. They will depart from Kohima on 2nd October by helicopter after visiting the World War II memorial at Kohima.
