Kohima, May 10 (MExN): A memorial monolith programme in honour of Late Dr. K. Kath, Ex- Minister took place on May 9 at Tesophenyu new village in Tseminyu district.

The memorial monolith was unveiled by MLA Ar. Jwenga Seb, Chairman, DPDB Tseminyu, Government of Nagaland.

In his address, Seb described Late Dr. K. Kath as a towering leader, trailblazer and visionary whose legacy would continue to inspire generations.

He stated that the memorial monolith was not erected merely for remembrance but to honour a life dedicated to giving hope to the people and promoting unity, peace and progress in society.

Late Dr. K. Kath championed the cause of unity and that the greatest tribute to him would not only be through speeches or monuments, but through collective efforts towards growth, peace and progress, Seb said.

He said that Dr. Kath had brought recognition and identity to Tesophenyu New Village through his remarkable achievements and public service.

A brief life sketch of the late Dr. K. Kath was presented by Agwalo Kath, who reflected on the inspiring and service-oriented life of Late Dr. K. Kath.

He stated that Dr. Kath devoted his life to serving the people and bringing development to the community.

He began his professional career as an Assistant Surgeon at Naga Hospital, Kohima in 1980 and later entered politics, becoming an MLA in 1989. On June 19, 1990, he created history by becoming the first Cabinet Minister among the Rengma community.

Agwalo Kath further highlighted the late leader’s contribution towards upgrading the SDO Civil Office into an ADC Office at Tseminyu, which eventually paved the way for Tseminyu becoming a full-fledged district.

He also mentioned that Late Dr. K. Kath remained committed to the regional political movement and stayed loyal to the Naga People’s Front (NPF) until his last breath on November 17, 2025.

Ahino Tep, president NPF Tseminyu Division, praised the unwavering dedication of Late Dr. K. Kath towards the regional party and said that he worked tirelessly to revive and strengthen the NPF until his final days.

He also credited the late leader for his pivotal role in the administrative advancement of Tseminyu from an SDO Civil Office to ADC Office and eventually into a district.

The programme was led by Meshenchu Kath, Pastor, TNBC while Shenthyi Kath, chairman Tesophenyu New Village proposed vote of thanks.

Tekesheng Kath, Senior Pastor, TUBC and Rev. Wachulo Jemu, Chairman, Tesophenyu Lojvii Khekhi Jen prayed for the programme.
