Mental health awareness programme at KSC Jotsoma
Kohima, April 9 (MExN): A recent mental health awareness program, a joint effort by the Carl Roger’s Institute of Mental Health and Research Centre (CRIMHRC) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, highlighted the crucial need to prioritize mental well-being.
The program, themed “Invest in yourself: prioritising your mental well-being,” featured CRIMHRC chairman Kezhazolie Cornelius Mere as the key speaker.
Mere underscored the fundamental role of mental health in overcoming life's obstacles, emphasizing the importance of building resilience and practicing self-love and self-care, especially in today's fast-paced environment.
He also spoke about the value of self-care and grounding exercises, advocating for a stronger connection with nature as a stress management tool for the current generation.
Expressing concern over the increasing susceptibility of young Nagas to stress, Mere pointed out the growing reliance on detrimental coping mechanisms like gaming and social media addiction, as well as substance abuse.
While acknowledging the temporary pleasure these might offer, he warned of their long-term negative consequences on mental health.
Furthermore, Mere stressed the importance of fostering greater mental health advocacy within Naga society.
He highlighted the availability of relevant courses at the institute designed for parents, teachers, church leaders, and graduates, encouraging their participation in promoting mental well-being.
The collaboration between CRIMHRC and NSS Science College signifies a collective move towards addressing mental health concerns and fostering a culture of well-being, particularly among students and the wider community.
