Mizoram launches Electronic Point of Sales in fair price shops

Aizawl, September 5  (NNN): Mizoram has launched Electronic Point of Sales (ePoS) at government’s fair price shop, to be the first in the state.

State Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) minister, K Lalrinliana launched the facility at  Zonuam Retailer -Iin Aizawl on September 4 evening, an official statement said today.

The same facility is expected to be installed in all the 149 fair price shops within Aizawl within this month, the statement said, adding that, 1,270 other fair price shops in different parts are also expected to be provided with the same facility at the earliest.

With the launch of  ePoS, Mizoram has joined other states on the drive of ‘End to End Computerisation of TPDS Operation scheme’, which is a joint initiative of Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Speaking on the occasion, Lalrinliana said that the facility will ensure transparency in Public Distribution System by facilitating beneficiaries to get their actual quota of ration.

He also said that the system will reduce wastage and contain unfair disposal of the surpluses which frequently cost the government heavily. He added that the ePoS machine is the simplest device that can be easily used and operated by the users without any complication.

The minister then asked all beneficiaries to link their Aadhar numbers with their ration cards in order to avail benefit through the PDS at fair price shops after the implementation of ePoS.

The inaugural function was attended by sitting legislator from Aizawl West-I constituency Zothantluanga and other officials.
