Mizoram logs 581 new COVID-19 cases, one more death

Aizawl, July 15 (PTI): Mizoram continued to register a surge in COVID-19 cases as 581 more people tested positive for the infection, pushing the state's tally to 25,751, a health department official said on Thursday.

The toll climbed to 116 after a 74-year-old woman from Aizawl district succumbed to the infection, he said.

Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 272, followed by Kolasib at 129, Lunglei district at 58, Mamit at 57 and Lawngtlai at 49,

Notably, at least 115 children are among the newly infected people, the official said.

Of the 581 patients, 283 were found to have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and the rest were asymptomatic, he said.

Mizoram currently has 5,373 active cases, while 20,262 people have recovered from the disease. The single-day positivity rate stands at 11.06 per cent.

The state has tested over 5.4 lakh samples thus far, including 5,253 on Wednesday, the official added.

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi, as many as 5,91,778 people have been inoculated, of which over one lakh have received both the doses.
