Mob torches house of alleged girl murderers

IMPHAL, December 28 (NNN): An angry mob burnt down the house of alleged murderers of a 21-year-old girl in Manipur’s Thoubal district today.

Korimayum Nargish of Lillong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, who went missing since December 22 night, was found dead in a suspicious manner on December 27. Her dead body tied to a tree was recovered from the bank of Imphal River in Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai Konjil on Monday morning.

Police investigating the case arrested three persons including a woman in connection with the case, late last night. The arrested persons were Chesham Sirajur Rahman (27), his younger sister and Chesham Musha (21) of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai Konjil under Lilong police station.

A team of Lilong police station, where a case regarding the death of the girl was lodged, arrested the trio from their house last night around midnight, the police said.

When the news of the arrest of the alleged culprits spread, people stormed the house and ransacked it before setting afire the belongings of the house. Police who rushed to the spot, however, controlled the mob from burning down. As tension is running high, armed police personnel have been detailed in and around the house.

Meanwhile, Thoubal district superintendent of police, Dr S Ibomcha Singh today claimed that the three arrested persons have confessed that they murdered the girl. “During interrogation, they admitted commission of the crime,” he told reporters at a press conference. The police officer then assured of taking up all necessary legal procedures to punish them and deliver justice to the victim girl and her family while making an appeal to the people not to indulge in mob violence.
