Kohima, July 24 (MExN): Modern College, Piphema, celebrated its Graduation Day on Friday, with graduates being urged to embrace lifelong learning, uphold integrity and contribute meaningfully to society.
Addressing the function, K Manikanta, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, congratulated the graduating students and said graduation marked the beginning of a new phase of life with greater responsibilities and challenges.
He urged the students to trust in God, honour their parents and remain grateful to their teachers, saying success comes through patience, perseverance and consistent effort. He encouraged the graduates to make the best use of opportunities, continuously upgrade their skills and pursue excellence throughout their lives.
The ceremony also saw the college receive the Institutional Excellence Award from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in recognition of its academic performance and commitment to excellence. Principal Dr Vitsou Yano received the award on behalf of the institution.
In her welcome address, Yano thanked USTM for the recognition and congratulated the graduating students, urging them to face the future with confidence, integrity and perseverance.
The valedictory address was delivered by Sociology department topper and University Rank 1 holder Visino Chüsi, who reflected on her experiences and learning at the college.
Short speeches were also delivered by P Leroyia, who secured University Rank 1 in the Department of English, and Niepuvinuo Rhitso, who secured University Rank 3 in the Department of Sociology.
The programme featured an invocation by Linovi Kinimi, Prayer Secretary of the Modern College Evangelical Union (MCEU), a special presentation by Tovi Zhimo, and a performance titled "God's Many Blessings" by B.A. first semester students.
The college also released two publications—its annual magazine Apprise and Student's Travelogue: A Collection of Memories.
The presentation of graduates and academic achievements was led by Academic Officer Keleseno Longkumer along with faculty members of the respective departments.
The ceremony concluded with the singing of the college anthem, a mass prayer and refreshments.
Modern College produced four university rank holders this year. Two students from the Department of Sociology secured University Ranks 1 and 3, while two students from the Department of English secured University Ranks 1 and 7.
