Modern HSS welcomes students with Fresher's Day

Kohima, July 4 (MExN): Modern Higher Secondary School, Kohima, organised its Fresher's Day on Saturday to welcome the new batch of Class 11 students, with motivational speeches, cultural performances and the crowning of Mr and Miss Fresher 2026 marking the event.

The programme began with a prayer by Vilitoli Chishi, followed by a welcome address by Temastilchi R Sangma, who greeted the new students and encouraged them to embrace school life with enthusiasm while assuring them of the support of seniors and teachers.

The school choir performed the song Look at the World, setting the tone for the celebration.

Speaking on behalf of the senior students, Metevino Chishi shared her experiences of school life, urging the newcomers to participate actively in school activities and stressing that respect and hard work are essential for success.

Representing the freshers, Wewuzo Kapfo thanked the school community for the warm welcome and expressed the hopes and aspirations of the new batch, while pledging to uphold the values of the institution.

Entrepreneur and YouTuber Lolo Ezung, the special guest, delivered a motivational address, encouraging students to remain focused, build self-confidence and make the most of opportunities that come their way.

The programme also featured a special performance by artiste Abdon Mech, whose musical presentation drew an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Teachers and students were felicitated during the event for their academic excellence.

The highlight of the programme was the selection of Mr and Miss Fresher 2026 following rounds of talent presentations, self-introductions and question-and-answer sessions.

Ngeptai of Class 11 Arts was crowned Miss Fresher 2026, while Sumir Sunar of Class 11 Science won the title of Mr Fresher 2026.

The titles of Miss Multimedia 2026 and Mr Multimedia 2026 were awarded to Somila and Lumjamo Patton, respectively. The winners were felicitated with sashes and gifts.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Literary and Cultural Committee Convener Khrotso Koza, followed by the benediction delivered by Shanbenthung M Lotha.
