Mokokchung, October 27 (MExN): The Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) has approved verification committees for the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) 2026-2027 and recommended two societies for official registration. The decisions were taken at the monthly DPDB meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on October 26 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and DPDB Vice Chairman Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS.
During the meeting, the board reviewed the previous meeting’s minutes concerning government offices and quarters at Marepkong Ward. The Deputy Commissioner directed the Land Record and Survey Officer to prepare a list of departments allotted land in the area, along with the status of the allotments, and submit it at the next meeting.
The board also deliberated on a proposal presented by the District Planning Officer for LADP verification committees and approved the proposed committees for the Assembly constituencies in the district. The District Culture Officer briefed the house on the Mokokchung District Art and Culture Council (MDACC), formed in 1988 to promote and preserve Ao Naga art, culture and traditions, and nominate prominent personalities for national and state Governor’s awards. Following deliberations on the council’s functioning, the Deputy Commissioner suggested that members come up with fresh ideas to revive the MDACC.
The board also considered applications from Community Care Connect, Kumlong Ward, and Salukum Rogo, Ungma, seeking official registration. After examining their aims, objectives and proposed activities, the house approved and recommended forwarding their registration documents to the competent government authority for further action.
On the proposed “Viksit Mokokchung 2047” mission, SDO (C) Ajay Moktan, IAS, briefed the board on efforts to prepare a vision document aligned with “Viksit Nagaland” and “Viksit Bharat 2047”. He informed the house that all heads of departments (HoDs) had been directed to submit comprehensive departmental information, but only a few had complied. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the remaining departments to submit their inputs at the earliest.
The board was also informed that a Union Minister of State would visit Mokokchung from November 2 to 4 to meet HoDs and review schemes and projects under the Central and state governments. The Deputy Commissioner directed all HoDs to be prepared for the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed the house that the Chief Minister of Nagaland would visit Mokokchung on October 29 for the final match of the silver jubilee edition of the Dr T Ao Trophy and requested all HoDs to be present.
On solid waste management, the Urban Development Officer gave a presentation on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, which came into effect on April 1. The officer highlighted the requirement for segregation of waste at source into four streams: wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste and special care waste.
Reviewing the ground situation, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need to improve waste segregation to address local dumping and drainage problems. He urged DPDB members and government departments to incorporate sanitation awareness into departmental programmes and village outreach activities.
The General Manager of the District Industries Centre (DIC) presented an overview of the centre’s role and the Central and state-sponsored schemes it implements, including the benefits available to people in the district. The house reviewed the presentation and commended the department’s work. The Land Record and Survey Officer is scheduled to make the next departmental presentation at a subsequent DPDB meeting.
