Mokokchung, April 13 (MExN): A local court here has convicted a man for the culpable homicide of his wife and aggravated penetrative sexual assault on his minor daughter in a case stemming from an incident in February 2022.
Victo Sema, NJS, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Special Judge POCSO, Mokokchung, on April 10, 2026, convicted Ram Palat Gupta under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act (assault, abandonment, abuse, exposure or wilful neglect of a child), and Section 6 of the POCSO Act (aggravated penetrative sexual assault).
Gupta has been sentenced to 30 years of Rigorous Imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000.
The case relates to an incident on February 16, 2022, at Longnak village in Mokokchung district, wherein the accused set his wife on fire, who subsequently succumbed to her injuries. He later committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault on his minor daughter.
The case was investigated by OC WPS Achila. The State was represented by Special Public Prosecutor and Assistant Public Prosecutor M Temjenwathy Imsong and B Langshen.
