Mokokchung, July 30 (MExN): The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Mokokchung, observed the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with an awareness programme at Police Station-I, highlighting the growing threat of human trafficking through online scams, fraudulent job offers and deceptive recruitment practices.
The programme, held under the theme "Trapped Behind the Scam", was attended by personnel of Police Station-I, the Women Police Station, Child Welfare Committee members, Child Helpline staff and officials of the DCPU.
District Child Protection Officer Samuel Kapu delivered the introductory address, while T Asula Imsong spoke as the resource person.
Imsong stressed the need for greater public awareness about the increasing use of fake job offers, online scams and deceptive recruitment methods to exploit vulnerable individuals. She underscored the importance of community vigilance, awareness and coordinated efforts to prevent trafficking in persons.
She also emphasised educating children and young people to recognise warning signs of trafficking and report suspicious activities.
ASI Limawati urged participants to remain alert to online scams and false promises that often serve as gateways to exploitation.
The programme reaffirmed the DCPU's commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of every individual through awareness, prevention, protection and inter-departmental collaboration. It concluded with a call for united action by government agencies, civil society organisations, educational institutions and the public to combat human trafficking.
DCPU holds exposure trip for children
Meanwhile, the DCPU also organised its first one-day educational exposure trip for children from the Care and Support Children Home on Tuesday.
As part of the programme, the children visited Fazl Ali College, where they toured the Botany Laboratory, Zoology Museum, aviary and digitised classrooms. They also visited the Horticulture Department Nursery and the State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) at Yisemyong.
The exposure visit was aimed at broadening the children's educational horizons by introducing them to higher educational institutions, academic opportunities and potential career paths.
Kapu thanked the institutions for facilitating the visits and said such programmes play an important role in the holistic development of children under institutional care by boosting their confidence, expanding their perspectives and motivating them to pursue higher education and a brighter future.
