Mokokchung prepares for measles catch-up campaign

Dimapur, September 8 (MExN): In view of the forthcoming measles catch up campaign the District Task Force held a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall on September 7.The meeting was convened by Lithrongla G Chishi, Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DTF, Mokokchung.
The District Immunization Officer, Mokokchung, Dr. Limatula briefed the members on the roles and responsibilities of the District Task Force during the measles catch up campaign. She informed that the campaign aims to vaccinate all the children in the age group of 9 months – 10 years. She also added that the vaccination will be carried out in the schools and in the community covering both the rural and urban areas in order to ensure 100% measles vaccination during the campaign, stated a press note.
It added that during the meeting, different responsibilities were entrusted to all the respective head of departments to take initiatives in carrying out the campaign successfully. The government officials entrusted with the responsibilities will coordinate and instruct the VHCs, VDBs, Village Councils, ward chairmen, AWWs, ASHAs, Church leaders in disseminating the information and mobilising the community.
Besides, all the Head of Departments were directed to submit an independent report about the names of the children vaccinated to the Deputy Commissioner by November 10. The Deputy Commissioner also call upon all the departments, Social oganizations and Church leaders  to extend  all possible help during the measles campaign to make Mokokchung a measles free district. The meeting was attended by officials from various departments, ANPSA and Watsu Mungdang representatives under Mokokchung district.
Training on Measles

One-day ‘District Level Training on Measles Catch-up Campaign’ was held on September 8  at IDSP conference hall IMDH Mokokchung where Programme Officers, Medical Officers, DPM, BPMs and ASHA coordinators were trained on how to carry forward the campaign successfully. The resource persons for the training were Dr Temsu, SMO, WHO and Dr Limatula DIO Mkg. A consultant from the UNICEF-Measles, Dr Anupam K Verma was the observer during the training.
The note stated that the measles catch-up campaign in Mokokchung will tentatively commence from October 10, informed the DIO Dr Limatula during the training. The campaign will target children in the age group of 9 months – 10 years, and will cover the schools and the community in the district.
The Chief Medical Officer, Mkg Dr N Bendang Jamir, while encouraging the trainees, said that the responsibility of the medical officers is to sensitize on the measles campaign from the grass-root level. He therefore encouraged the medical officers to be sincere and hardworking to ensure the success of the campaign. The CMO maintained that every child reacts to vaccine in different ways, which might discourage the parents from taking their child for vaccination; he therefore said that it is the duty of the medical officers and volunteers to enlighten the parents about the importance of vaccination against measles.
During the training, the resource persons gave Power Point presentations on various topics related to measles catch-up campaign. The trained medical officers will go to the block levels and impart trainings to the grass-root level workers like the health workers, AWWs, ASHAs and volunteers for mobilising the community.
