Official records indicate he conducted PM and served in ER

The police investigation into the fraud doctor case has tossed up some startling revelations that would elicit amazement and anxiety in equal measure. The case, revealed by the Dimapur police on May 2, involves a man identified as Albert P Lotha, in his thirties, who masqueraded as an MBBS doctor for over a decade in Dimapur, before his quackery was blown earlier in January, this year.

He claimed to be an MBBS graduate from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, and purportedly began practicing at a family owned medical outlet— Medical Hall, in New Market, beginning 2014.

As told to the media by the Dimapur police chief, the Nagaland Medical Council filed a police complaint against Albert.

While he admitted to police about his practice at a private clinic, a befuddling revelation has emerged that points to him serving in a hospital setting in the Emergency Room (ER) and even conducted post-mortems. Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department officials have admitted to the existence of actual post-mortem reports bearing the accused Albert’s signature. There are also anecdotal accounts of doctors at the Dimapur District Hospital (DH) witnessing the accused serving as an ER doctor at the said hospital.

At one point, he claimed specialisation in dermatology.

As told to The Morung Express by the sources, Albert’s connection to the Dimapur DH and the district CMO establishment spanned from 2016 to 2022. During that period, he allegedly conducted some 29-30 post-mortems under the CMO establishment. The sources said that there are records of post-mortem reports signed by the accused, and countersigned by Chief Medical Officers of Dimapur from the period.

If this is confirmed to be true, the sources said that it would have legal implications in police investigations into homicides from the time period.  The revelation has yet to be corroborated by the police, however.

How he gained access to the CMO and the District Hospital remained unclear. The sources maintained that he was never appointed on official capacity by the department.

“It is still a mystery how or who appointed him but there is documentary evidence suggesting Albert was there (at the CMO establishment and also at the District Hospital ER),” one of the sources said.
