Imphal, July 1 (NNN): The custom preventive force office in the Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh was attacked by suspected Kuki undergrounds in the evening yesterday (Thursday), said a police source from the trading town. The police source stated that custom superintendent RK Dharendrajit has lodged a formal complained with Moreh police station about the attacked incident and a case has been registered by the police station. Later, the area was swept by the police but no arrest has been made.
On June 30 at about 7:30 pm, two armed youths went to the custom office inquiring about the superintendent. When the staffs of the office said that he was not available at the office, the youths got agitated and fired several rounds from 9 mm pistol before fleeing the scene, said the police, adding that no casualty was reported from the firing.
A reliable source from the custom office suspected that the firing incident at the custom office on June 30 could be the handiwork of a newly formed Kuki underground outfit that placed a monetary demand on the office some days ago.
Meanwhile, a Mizo woman was arrested Thursday at around 12:45 pm from Suangdoh check post about 27 km west of Churachandpur police station by 29 Assam Rifles while frisking. The arrested woman has been identified as Ngailiankim aka Kiki, 25, w/o Lamguan-suung of Tuirial Airfield in Mizoram. 260 SPL ordinary detonators, 90 gelatin sticks and 34.45 meter of safety fuse have been recovered from her possession. She has been reportedly handed over to Churachandpur police station with the recovered items.
