Motor Workers Union appeals to Home Minister Manipur

Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): A Committee meeting of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur Motor Workers Trade Union was held on August 22, 2011 at Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union office, Golaghat Road. Following this, the union submitted an appeal to the Home Minister, Imphal, Manipur.
A press note issued by Manohar Singh, general secretary, Co-ordination Committee of Owners, Drivers and Motor Workers Union, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, stated that the union in the appeal informed that a month has already elapsed since about 35 trucks from Assam and Nagaland have been stranded at Kankopi, Manipur due to ongoing strike called by the local residents. As there is no means of conveyance, and the trucks are also made to halt in isolated places in the National Highway 39, the union said that the drivers and handyman of the stranded trucks are passing their days in starvation and trepidation state, besides which the stranded vehicles are also lying unsafe.
The union also stated that in the circumstances, if no step is being taken by the State Government of Manipur, it should at least allow safety dispatch the lorries from the strike affected area, otherwise the same shall endanger the lives of the drivers and handyman, besides the owners of the said trucks shall also suffer irreparable losses. “In the above said premises, I pray that you will be kind enough to do the needful whereby the stranded vehicles can return safely from the strike affected areas and for which act, we shall remain ever grateful to you,” further appealed the union.
