
DIMAPUR, JULY 26 (MExN): The Memorandum of Agreement for establishing the Regional Centre for Urban & Environment Studies (RCUES) for North East Region was signed between the Government of Nagaland represented by Neihu C. Thur, IAS Secretary Urban Development and the All India Institute of Local Self Government of India (AIILSG) represented by the Executive Director, Ajay R Agrawal on the 25th July 2011. This was informed in a press note issued by Ken Keditsu, Director Urban Development.
The RCUES is an institution for imparting training and capacity building of Urban Local Bodies and such as Municipalities and Town Councils for improvement in Urban Governance sponsored by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India. So far there is no dedicated RCUES centre in the whole of the North-East Region. This new centre aspires to cater customised needs of research and training for north eastern region, stated the press note.
It was informed that the formal launching of the Centre shall take place very soon. Till such time permanent campus is established, the Centre shall function at the Old Directorate Building of the Urban Development, below A.G Office.
The press note also described the signing of the MOA as most timely in the light of the Department’s focus on Effective Urban Local Governance during the 12th Five Year Plan and hoped that the Centre would leverage the effort of the Department in the endeavour. “As a result of sincere and concerted effort of the State Government as well as the AIILSG, the Ministry finally principally agreed to establish the Centre in Nagaland as Centre of Excellence for training and capacity building to cater to the needs of the whole North-East Region”, stated the press note.
