
Chümoukedima, OCTOBER 11 (MExN): Mount Mary College, Chümoukedima concluded the first edition of 'PsychWave 2025', a two-day psychology fest held here on October 9 and 10. The event, organised in collaboration with the District Mental Health Programme, District Hospital Dimapur, and Gracious Life Foundation, was held on the theme ‘Exploring Minds, Inspiring Waves.’
The inaugural session was graced by Manpon C Konyak, MLA, as the guest of honour. In his keynote address, he emphasised the importance of mental health, sharing his personal journey of recovery and resilience. The event began with a welcome note by Dr Basant Giri, IQAC Coordinator, who highlighted the institution's focus on communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
The second day commenced with a marathon organised in partnership with the Gracious Life Foundation, promoting the connection between physical and mental well-being. A key highlight was a panel discussion on “Social Stigma on Mental Health and Building a Supportive Society,” moderated by counselling psychologist Imnasenla Rachel.
The discussion featured insights from a diverse panel. Dr Temsuyanger, SMO Psychiatrist, identified a lack of awareness and superstitious beliefs as major challenges, urging society to replace fear with compassion. Lisali M Humtsoe, Founder of Gracious Life Foundation, discussed how stigma perpetuates harmful stereotypes and spoke about 'Halfway Homes' as systems for recovery. Sharing her personal story, Pastor Martha from Life Square Church highlighted love, care, and acceptance as powerful healing agents.
Kilentola Jamir, a Holistic Counsellor, pointed out that a significant portion of society silently struggles with mental health challenges and called for creating safe spaces for open conversation. T. Anungla, a Senior Lecturer, discussed the mental strain of the exam-oriented education system and noted the role of NEP 2020 in reducing academic stress. Takoyanger, Student Counsellor at Mount Mary College, stressed the importance of overcoming self-stigmatisation and encouraged students to seek help. Ms. Tsurila, Miss Grand India 3rd Runner-Up and Counselling Psychologist, addressed the pressure of job expectations among youth and emphasised the strength found in self-acceptance.
The fest concluded with a musical performance by artist Sunep Lemtur.
