MP Supongmeren inspects road projects on NH-29

Road restoration work along Phesama landslide from September 25

Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, today inspected the road projects on National Highway-29 from Patkai Bridge to Kiruphema and the Phesama landslide area.

During his inspection of the road stretch at Tsiedukhru range, which witnessed rockfalls on several occasions, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) officials told Jamir that diversions would be undertaken at all critical locations.

NHIDCL officials said they were proposing a project for the construction of four bridges along this stretch as a permanent solution to the problems.

“We are trying to send the preliminary part of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Ministry within a week,” the officials said, adding that, with the approval of the project, tendering would be initiated.

Jamir told the NHIDCL officials and contractors to prioritise the maintenance of the drainage system and other road maintenance works.

The MP asked NHIDCL to ensure that all blocked drains were cleared and grass-cutting completed within 10 days.

Jamir also inspected the ongoing construction of three tunnel roads along the National Highway.

One tunnel road is due for completion by the first week of December, while the other two will take some more time, officials informed.

Meanwhile, he called for safe and smooth traffic movement before the Hornbill Festival 2026.

Chümoukedima Deputy Commissioner Polan John and DCP Chümoukedima Nikho Venuh also joined the inspection.

Phesama landslide area
Upon the MP’s urging NHIDCL to expedite the restoration work at the Phesama landslide area, NHIDCL officials said the necessary formalities and soil testing had been completed and that machinery and manpower would now be deployed to undertake the restoration work from September 25.

The officials informed that it would take a month to complete the restoration work.

Jamir asked NHIDCL and contractors to take up the restoration work simultaneously from both ends of the landslide-affected area for speedy execution of the work.

NHIDCL assured that it would do the same, maintaining that there was no dearth of workforce and machinery for the job.

Kevingoto Kulnu, Revenue Officer, Kohima, also joined the inspection on behalf of the district administration at the Phesama landslide area.

Kulnu said the district administration would have another round of consultation with NHIDCL and villagers on September 25 to facilitate the work.
