The Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Promotion Council of India (PCI) inaugurated its office and training centre at Arkong Ward, Mokokchung on March 17. The event was graced by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe, as the special guest.
The inaugural programme commenced with a welcome and introductory speech by Bendangnukshi Jamir, Chairman of MSME PCI, Mokokchung District. He emphasized that the event marked not just the opening of an office but the beginning of a movement towards self-reliance, growth, and empowerment for the youth. Highlighting the unemployment crisis in Nagaland, where over 71,322 educated youths remain jobless while state recruitment accommodates only 600-700 annually, he underscored the importance of MSME initiatives in bridging this gap.
He also announced the upcoming launch of the PM Vishwakarma initiative, designed to support artisans and craftsmen through skill training, financial assistance, and tool kits. The program includes a seven-day skill enhancement training with a stipend of Rs 500 per participant per day, a Rs. 15,000 e-voucher for tools, and a Rs 3 lakh loan disbursed in two instalments. He urged financial institutions to facilitate smooth access to loans and called for collective support from the district administration and civil societies.
ADC Chumlamo Humtsoe, in his address, expressed optimism that the MSME office would be a game changer for aspiring entrepreneurs in Mokokchung. He noted that while business opportunities in Nagaland are abundant, many ventures fail due to a lack of guidance. He encouraged knowledge-sharing and pledged the administration’s full support for the initiative.
Khupsuanlal Hanghal, Chief Manager of SBI, Bazaar Branch, Mokokchung, addressed the gathering on the importance of financial literacy. He urged businesses to utilize banking facilities efficiently, advocating for the use of current accounts over personal savings. He also cautioned against cyber fraud and stressed the necessity of cultivating a savings habit.
Lanuakum Jamir, State Chairman of MSME PCI, Nagaland, highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that Mokokchung is the first district in the state to establish an MSME office. He reiterated that MSMEs contribute to 30% of India's GDP and play a crucial role in employment generation, innovation, and economic growth. He assured that the MSME office would support startups, serve as a platform for entrepreneurs, and drive the district towards progress.
The event also included a dedication prayer by Monglir, Associate Pastor of MTBA.
