Dimapur, July 11 (MExN): Mughaho Awomi emerged champion in the Open category as the Sümi Chess Association concluded its chess tournament with a valedictory function and prize distribution ceremony.
The valedictory programme was hosted by the association’s vice-president, Hoto Yeptho. The vote of thanks was delivered by Tiqhetoli Achumi, while the benediction was pronounced by Rebecca Achumi.
In the Open category, Awomi won the championship and received a cash prize, trophy and certificate. Kevilekho Zumvu finished runner-up, while Bovito Yeptho secured the second runners-up position.
Consolation prizes were awarded to the players finishing from fourth to tenth positions. The recipients were Melesai Dawhuo, Salhuto Nyekha, Kughaho Kiho, Heilamgumbe Haikube, Thopimi K Assumi, Khoveto Vero and Akaho Achumi.
In the Under-14 category, Vivaan Bhardwaj claimed the title, followed by Khrieto Terhuja in second place and Nizuto Siedzevituo Kakheto in third. All three received cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
In the Under-10 category, Thejavituo Shuya secured first place, while Apishe A Kiba and Kughuto Awomi finished second and third respectively. They were also awarded cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
The Best Veteran Player (above 60 years) award was presented to Otova Swu.
