Muivah’s welcome reflects move toward Dialogue, peace and reconciliation: GNF

Kohima, October 21 (MExN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has expressed appreciation for what it called the gesture of goodwill and understanding extended by several civil society organisations from across communities in welcoming the historic visit of Th Muivah, General Secretary of the NSCN-IM, to his native village Somdal after 52 years.

In a press communiqué issued by its Media Cell, the GNF acknowledged organisations such as Meitei Leepun, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Zomi Re-Unification Organization (ZRO), and Kuki Tribal Union (KTU/NSCN) for welcoming the visit, describing it as a meaningful step towards mutual respect and understanding among all communities.

The Forum also conveyed its appreciation to the Government of India and the Manipur State Government for their positive role in facilitating the long-awaited and significant visit.

Recalling past events, the GNF noted that in 2010, Muivah’s proposed visit was met with resistance from both state authorities and sections of Meitei and Kuki CSOs, which led to the tragic Mao Gate incident where two Mao Naga students lost their lives following police firing by Manipur Commandos.

“This year’s open show of solidarity reflects a significant shift toward dialogue, peace, and reconciliation,” it stated.

Extending good health and ‘joyful homecoming’ to Muivah, the GNF also expressed hope that the visit would “inspire inspire deeper understanding, unity, and respect among all peoples of the region.”
