The United Naga Council (UNC) today issued a “directive” that Nagas under the jurisdiction of the council should hoist “Naga national flag” on August 14. As such, district apex organisations and tribes have been directed to ensure that the Naga national flag is hoisted in every Naga village on August 14. It also reminded that the Naga national flag will be hoisted in “Naga homeland” henceforth.

The council stated that in pursuance of the decision of Naga frontal organisations under the aegis of UNC arrived at on August 3, 2022 following the 7th remembrance programme of the historic Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN, it directed ‘every Naga village shall solemnly hoist Naga national flag on August 14, 2022, which is the 77th Naga Independence Day.’

“As you are aware of the sanctity of our national flag, we direct you to accord the highest honour and respect it deserves as always while hoisting the same since it is the most revered symbol of our oneness and guiding light of our way forward as a nation,” it stated.

UNC also stated that many noble Naga souls have embraced “martyrdom defending it and it is our bounden duty and responsibility to keep it fluttering amongst the flags of many other nations thus making a statement that Nagas are no lesser.”

The Council appealed that Naga leaders and public should “kindly” note this and refrain from indulging in any act(s) both overt and covert that will antagonize the established position and principle of the Naga nation.

UNC also expressed gratitude to all Nagas who have spiritedly participated and made selfless contributions in defending our birthright and land. “We are confident that all of you will continue to stand firm safeguarding our God’s given liberty and freedom,” it added.
