As part of its ongoing "alert campaign", Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked the people to halt their chores on October 31 from 4 am till midnight of the same day so that they can take part in the "mass protest".
COCOMI is a recently formed conglomeration of AMUCO, CCSK, HERICOUN, LIPUL and UCM.
COCOMI appealed people of all walks of life to cease all activities and participate in the "mass protest" of October 31.
Muslim organisations and student bodies will take part in the "mass protest", leaders of the civil society organisations who took part in a rally on Tuesday carried out on NH-102 (Imphal-Moreh road) at Lilong in Thoubal district.
The rally participated by a large number of people belonging to Muslim community of Manipur was carried out under the initiative of various civil society organisations like All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation (AMMSO), AMMOCOC, AMMOC, ALADA, ANJUMAN, AMMDO, RAUCO, PLYDO, ASPO, LBADC, UMWDA, UMYF, AMMUCO, PFI etc.
The rally marched towards Imphal was, however, stopped by police from further proceeding at Lilong Bridge after a brief tussle and allowed only a delegation of the leaders of the civil society organisations to proceed with the police and submit a memorandum to the chief minister at the Chief Minister’s bungalow.
After submitting the memorandum to the chief minister, PFI vice president, Mufti Arshad said that the mass rally was staged as part of COCOMI’s ongoing "alert campaign" on possible impact on territorial integrity of Manipur as a result of the Indo-Naga peace talks conclusion.
He claimed that people of all sections of the society of the state are still keeping full confidence with the state government in its effort to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur.
"If the Centre acts against the interest of the people of Manipur while settling the Naga political issue, we are ready to sacrifice our lives for the protection of territorial integrity of the state", he asserted.
